Health, Fire, and RCMP Services
About Our Health Centre
Health Centres are located in small communities throughout the Northwest Territories. They provide a range of needed medical and health care services to residents. Medical emergencies require that residents leave the community for hospital services. Tulita is presently served by the Harriet Gladue Health Centre. The present facility is being replaced by a new $18.9-million health centre. It’s completion in 2023 will result in significant improvements to health care delivery for residents. About Our Fire Department
The Tulita Volunteer Fire Department is served by a Fire Chief and dedicated group of volunteer fire personnel. The Department provides essential services to Hamlet residents. Responding to fires, inspecting buildings for safety, providing fire and carbon dioxide alarms, conducting training for volunteers, assisting at community events, and responding to emergency health-related situations is part of the most valuable work carried out by members of the volunteer fire department. All are owed a debt of gratitude for their commitment to maintaining a safe community.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)
The RCMP has a long and proud history in Northern Canada, dating back to the end of the 19th century. Frequently the only government presence in the harsh northern climate, the RCMP contributed a great deal to the shaping of Canada’s north. Offices of the RCMP are located in Tulita, composed of a Detachment Commander and support officers. As well as responding to illegal activity, RCMP officers assist in medical, fire and flood emergencies. They help with and participate in a host of community events. An important component is working with community partners to discuss community issues, identify common ground and work towards meaningful solutions to identified problems, in the spirit of reconciliation. Building a trusting relationship with community elders and service partners through open dialogue about traditional and culturally sensitive ways to identify and address the root causes of socially deviant and criminal behavior is a priority.
